Join the University of New Mexico’s Facilities Design & Construction (FDC) department as the Group Manager of Capital Projects and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our campus. As a key member of our Facilities Services team, you’ll oversee major capital projects that enhance the learning, research, and community experience at one of New Mexico’s most dynamic institutions.

As the Group Manager, you will: Coordinate the planning, design, and procurement processes for multiple capital projects. Oversee and provide leadership in the preparation of project plans, construction bid documents, and specifications. Supervise Project Managers and support staff, including work allocation, training, performance evaluation, and personnel recommendations. Provide technical leadership and oversight to ensure quality and compliance across all projects. Manage the preparation and review of project plans, budgets, and schedules. Participate in the development of annual operating budgets and provide fiscal direction for the unit. Review and pre-approve all individual project plans, budgets, and schedules for the operating group. Lead coordination between client groups, architects, and institutional service units on complex projects. Monitor and support Project Managers in managing internal and external stakeholder relationships. Ensure operational cost-effectiveness, compliance with timelines, and adherence to quality standards. Oversee the work of external consultants and contractors to ensure alignment with contract specifications and regulations. Review and approve drafts prepared by subordinate Project Managers. Participate in departmental planning, problem resolution, and performance reviews. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and safe operations. Establish effective unit operating systems aligned with organizational goals.

8. Hybrid Work Schedule: Currently, FDC is working a hybrid schedule with three days in-office and two days remote. This schedule may be revised in the future.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 11 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex capital projects, with a track record of successful project delivery on time and within budget.
  • Strategic Thinker: Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to align project goals with institutional priorities and long-term campus development strategies.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of construction management, architectural design, engineering principles, and public sector procurement processes. Familiarity with software such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Acrobat.
  • Excellent Communicator: Ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, including university leadership, contractors, architects, and community members.
  • Commitment to Sustainability: Familiarity with sustainable design practices and LEED certification standards, with a passion for environmentally responsible construction.
  • Adaptable Problem Solver: Skilled in navigating challenges, resolving conflicts, and making data-driven decisions in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
