Health Education Consultant

Requisition IDreq11171
Working TitleHealth Education Consultant
Position Grade12
Position Summary The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The incidence of autism spectrum disorder is 1 in 59. Although individuals with ASD may participate in therapeutic environments such as schools or clinics, challenges may arise during less structured community settings. Many services and supports in communities do not have the sufficient awareness or understanding of this population in order to serve them in an inclusive manner.

This Health Education Consultant will provide training, technical assistance and consultation about ASD and the best strategies for inclusion of this population. This position will work with a variety of health care professionals and community programs to provide training, technical assistance and consultation around the inclusion of individuals with ASD in all aspects of life. This may include community programs, e.g., museums, day camps, as well as health care professionals in medical or dental practices and/or emergency rooms.

This position requires traveling throughout NM and occasional work off-hours and/or weekends.
