Position Summary

The University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Office for Academic Personnel (OAP) is seeking a customer -focused, forward-thinking HR Analyst to support Main and Branch Campus faculty, staff, administration, and leadership regarding implementation of and compliance with University policies, procedures, guidelines and compliance with current collective bargaining agreements.

OAP is the Human Resources office for approximately two thousand faculty and three thousand graduate assistantship holders.

OAP is responsible for detailed review and data entry for approximately 2,000 faculty transactions annually. These transactions include compensation changes, special administrative components, appointment changes, etc. OAP is also responsible for hiring over 100 faculty annually and 3,000 assistantship holders annually. OAP receives approximately 2/3 of all hires and transactions between May and August.

This is a customer service focused position requiring good communication skills and the ability to solve problems. You will work with Schools and Colleges to address questions about faculty job records and provide advice on UNM best practices for maintaining job records.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as the initial contact and liaison to colleges and departments for intake and assessment
  • Handle routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and current collective bargaining agreements; refer complex matters to appropriate management staff with OAP and Office for Academic Personnel Labor Relations (OAPLR).
  • Review faculty employment transactions for comprehensiveness and verify incoming and outgoing documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and process faculty hiring via UNMJobs.
  • Provide support regarding hiring processes, guidelines and policies to applicants and department stakeholders.
  • Maintain and audit records related to personnel files, labor agreements, and HR processes.
  • Prepare documents and records required for review of complex HR issues, contract negotiations, and meetings.
  • Conduct research related to human resources policies, employee relations activities, and labor negotiations.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements, labor relations, relations and human resources practices.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Over 5 years’ experience in a Human Resources role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR and contract negotiations.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet or related software
