Position Summary

The Center for Personalized Health within the Department of InternalMedicine is seeking an HS Research Tech 1 to assist with multiomic studies. Thecandidate will conduct wet bench activities such as library preparation, metagenomicsequencing on multiple platforms, single-cell sequencing, and immunologicalassays with human specimens. The candidate will be responsible for recordingdata, basic data analyses, and interpretation. This employee will work closelywith clinical and administrative staff in a research setting and may interactwith study participants. The HS Research Tech 1 may work with confidentialdata, sensitive health information, clinical staff, and study participants.Experience with phlebotomy preferred but not required.

Dutiesand Responsibilities:

1. Basic knowledge and understanding of scientific research methodology
2. Ability to collect and process research data
3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment
4. Working knowledge of wet bench research techniques
5. Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards
6. Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA
7. Ordering supplies and shipping samples

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of directly related student practicum or equivalent experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of scientificresearch methodology
  • Experience in collecting and processing research data - including performing multiomic analysis and immune assays of human samples.
  • Experience maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering supplies as needed, and shipping samples
  • Working knowledge of wet bench research techniques
  • Experience maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards
  • Experience recording data in a HIPAA-compliant database
