Position Summary

The UNM Health Sciences Center Information Security Office (HSC ISO) is seeking a detail oriented Information Technology (IT) Security Analyst who is looking for a dynamic position in an academic health center. This position reports to the HSC Information Security Officer works collaboratively with HSC IT security analysts and professionals and is instrumental in maintaining information security services and safeguards across the HSC. This position currently has no supervisory duties.

The Analyst will participate in the security review and risk assessment processes for new initiatives, projects, technologies and safeguards to ensure compliance with always changing regulatory requirements, and recommend improvements. They will assist with the analysis of data transfers and their related processes and coordinating security incident response activities with a focus on detail, confidentiality, and adherence to procedures and chain of command. The incumbent will provide input on enterprise security assessments and is responsible for regular Nessus scans of the environment.

The Analyst will participate in the writing, editing and reviewing of information security policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and training. They should have an understanding of and ability to maintain privacy standards affecting patients, students, research subjects, and employees. The incumbent should possess the knowledge of and the ability to apply ever-changing regulatory standards such as HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, and CUI in an academic healthcare setting. They will maintain the currency of knowledge with respect to relevant laws, technologies and/or systems related to information security and privacy.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of security reviews and assessments
  • Knowledge of data transfer agreements and transfer procedures
  • Experience writing, reviewing and/or updating information security policies, procedures, guidelines and standards
  • Knowledge of business impact assessment and risk analysis methodologies
  • Knowledge of cyber security frameworks, particularly the NIST CyberSecurity Framework
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess technically oriented IT security training, credentials or certifications. i.e., Security+, CISSP, or similar certifications and course work
