Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus is accepting applications for Lecturer I, II or III in Game Design and Simulation. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position. Base salary for the 9-month faculty position is $48,000 to $50,000 depending on education. The appointment begins August 10, 2020.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,200 each semester.

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

Provide 15 credit hours of classroom instruction Fall and Spring semesters. (Summer teaching may be available for extra compensation.) Maintain student records and office hours; participate in college committees, curriculum development, outcomes assessment, professional development, departmental projects, and campus community service. Recruit students for the program.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Game Design or a related field
  • Two years of teaching experience or related industry experience
  • One year or more experience in game development, either industry or independent
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Game Design or a related field
  • Programming or game production software experience
  • Visual and audio design experience
  • Ability to function effectively and productively in team-based initiatives
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
