Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a Lecturer Iin General Studies for the Multi-Vocational Service Occupations (MVSO) Students Achieving New Directions (SAND) program at UNM-Gallup’s Center for Careerand Technical Education. We are one of four branch community colleges of theUniversity of New Mexico and serve approximately 2200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 mileswest of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and nearthe Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. The city of Gallup has a population of 22,000and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoor recreationalactivities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy, whilemaintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ fulltime and part-time faculty members. Weare fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associatedegrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificateprograms, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personalenrichment courses. UNM-Gallup servesmultiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle CollegeHigh School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding ourprograms, engaging with our community, establishing multiple endowments and grant opportunitieswhile hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty. Lecturers at UNM-G have career advancementopportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook and faculty unioncollective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 24 Credit Hourcourse load in the area of General Studies/Career Planning (80%), andadminister the MVSO SAND program (20%), participate in monthly Divisionmeetings and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction withthe CCTE Director in an annual faculty-director agreement. In addition, the selected candidate will beexpected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionthrough actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactively managing bias.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Education/Special Education or other related fields
  • Experience in classroom teaching and developingand delivering instructional materials

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or other related fields
  • Experience in classroom teaching and transition services
  • Experience working with students who have special learning needs at the high school level (learning disabilities, physical/mobility issues, autism, emotional/behavior situations)
  • Experience working with high school students in a school-to-work transition program
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
