Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, locatedin Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a LecturerI or II in Welding Technology. We areone of four branch community colleges of the University of New Mexico and serveapproximately 2200 students. Located inGallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situatedin the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and HopiReservation. The city of Gallup has apopulation of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoorrecreational activities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy,while maintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ fulltime and part-time faculty members. Weare fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associatedegrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificateprograms, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personalenrichment courses. UNM-Gallup servesmultiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle CollegeHigh School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

Lecturers at UNM-G have career advancementopportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook and faculty unioncollective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 27CH course loadper year in the area of Welding Technology, maintain an active service record(as defined by the UA-UNM CBA), participate in monthly Division meetings andexecute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the divisionchair in an annual faculty-chair agreement. In addition, the selected candidatewill be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, andinclusion through actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactivelymanaging bias.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certifications
    - Shielded Metal Arc Welding - AWS D1.1 (A5.1 and A5.5) Structural Welding, All Positions, and
    - Flux Core Arc Welding (Duel Shield) - AWS D1.1 (A5.20) Structural Welding, All Positions, or
    - Eligible to become certified.
  • Associate-level Degree in Welding Technology or closely-related field, and two years trades experience OR five years trades experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated teaching experience at a branch/community college or similar institution.
  • Experience teaching welding technology at the secondary level.
  • Demonstrated successful course development and instructional delivery.
  • Demonstrated commitment to first generation college students.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
