Position Summary

POSITION: 0.5 FTE Lecturer II or III of Engineering. Appointment begins August 20, 2018. All Lecturer appointments at UNM provide for promotional and multi-year contract opportunities. Additionally, after six years of service with satisfactory performance reviews, this lecturer appointment includes a one-time election to convert to a probationary, tenure-track appointment subject to the approval of the chair, dean and provost. If this one-time option is not exercised, the lecturer appointment remains in place and retains eligibility to pursue regular lecturer promotion and multi-year contract opportunities.

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, the Los Alamos Campus offers academic transfer courses, as well as vocational and technical courses to the citizens of Los Alamos County, Sandoval County, and northern New Mexico. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 1,100 credit students each semester. The campus is located approximately 90 miles northwest of Albuquerque, NM.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide 15 credit hours of classroom instruction per academic year in the area of Engineering. Inform students concerning course requirements and evaluation process and attendance requirements. Maintain attendance, assessment, student records and deadlines. Prepare and grade class assignments and exams. Advise students on their academic progress. Post and maintain office hours. Participate in faculty and college committees/discussion and task forces to include curriculum development, teaching and learning techniques, outcomes assessment, and administrative assignments.



Minimum Qualifications to teach or develop courses in Engineering the field for which you are applying, are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met by one of these ways:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering


  • A master’s degree or higher in a discipline other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.


  • Ph.D. degree in Engineering
  • PE License
  • Ability to teach mechanical engineering design, statics, and circuits courses
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution ORS
  • Successful teaching in a community college
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty, administration, and students.
  • Demonstrated evidence of experience in curriculum development.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Application InstructionsSigned letter of application containing teaching philosophy; CV/resume; unofficial transcripts of all college or university work; a list of three current references and contact information, including at least one from a previous supervisor or colleague. Interviewees will be asked to conduct a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic. Note: The candidates selected for an interview will be asked to provide a teaching demonstration on a pre-selected topic. The successful candidate will be required to furnish official transcripts of all college or university work before hiring can be completed.

Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
