Position Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Universityof New Mexico invites applications for a full-time faculty position as LecturerIII. This lecturer will be a member of the Mechanical Engineering faculty atUNM’s main campus but teach courses as part of our ME bachelor’s degree offeredat the UNM-Los Alamos campus branch.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to teachingundergraduate and graduate courses in the broad mechanical engineering area. Theexpected teaching load for the position is three (3) courses per semester. Thisload can be reduced by assuming administrative duties such as coordinating thedepartment’s educational accreditation activities or other research work.

Applicants must hold, at a minimum, an earneddoctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related field by the startdate of the appointment. In terms of desired qualifications, candidates shouldhave demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduate design sequence, withtopics encompassing engineering graphics, design principles and prototyping,computer aided design and finite element analysis, manufacturing and machineshop techniques, and capstone design. Candidates should have astrong commitment to teaching excellence and external funding forresearch/educational programs. Candidates should have an established record ofcollaboration and recruitment with high schools and community colleges. Lastly,candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understandingof the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of theuniversity’s mission to serve local and global communities.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed toexcellence in both undergraduate and graduate education offering BS (ABETaccredited), MS and PhD degree programs. A team of 19 full-time faculty, and severalresearch and part-time faculty, support the activities of close to 705undergraduate students and more than 100 graduate students. We support both astrong core of mechanical engineering and interdisciplinary education thatinclude the Space Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, andNanoScience and MicroSystems Engineering programs. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely relatedfield

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduatedesign sequence, with topics encompassing engineering graphics, designprinciples and prototyping, computer aided design and finite element analysis,manufacturing and machine shop techniques, and capstone design
  • A strong commitment toteaching excellence and external funding for research/educational programs
  • Established record of collaboration andrecruitment with high schools and community colleges
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
