Position Summary

The Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) is looking for a new Education and Research Librarian that will serve the UNM clinical enterprise and the Office of Graduate Medical Education. We are looking for a creative and service-oriented individual with a high degree of organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. At HSLIC, we strive to be the leading resource for health information and instruction not only at UNM, but throughout New Mexico. As a part of our team, this open rank Lecturer non probationary/non-tenure position will primarily focus on supporting UNM’s clinical and educational mission through the delivery and evaluation of high quality, customized health information instruction and special reference/research consultations. In addition, this position will provide library education and information services to clinical faculty, resident physicians, fellows, and students. As such, it will be vital for this position to stay informed about library, college, and university wide issues.

This position will report to the Division head for Education, Consultation and Reference Services.

Appointment is posted as an open rank lecturer, to be determined based on qualifications. Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with clinical department stakeholders to identify and implement integrated library services that support the UNM Health Sciences Center mission.
  • Provides leadership and vision in managing, developing, and evaluating sustainable and integrated information services that measurably improve patient care, provider satisfaction, and other relevant outcomes.
  • Participates in clinical rounds and morning reports.
  • Develops and teaches instructional sessions for resident physicians and clinical groups; works with third and fourth year medical students in the clinical setting, providing hands-on instruction on effective searching of biomedical and health sciences databases.
  • Responds to requests for rapid, effective literature synthesis for complex clinical cases; provides expert literature searches in support of patient care, research projects, and systematic reviews.
  • Provides reference and consultation on research tools, using and retrieving literature; assists in citation management using bibliographic citation management tools; and develops, maintains, and promotes research guides for specific programs and topics.
  • Participates as a member of the Education, Consultation and Reference Services unit, contributes to unit meetings and strategic planning; answers reference questions; conducts literature reviews, including systematic reviews; provides consultations to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public; and promotes library services and resources.
  • Completes special projects as assigned, such as development of resources for specific clinical departments and patient populations, clinical guidelines, grant-funded research projects, program evaluation, and committee and teamwork.
  • Contributes to professional knowledge base through presentations, publications, and research in accordance with tenure and promotion criteria.
  • Develops and maintains a working, interactive and dynamic relationship with faculty, students and staff in assigned disciplines.
  • Participates as a HSLIC faculty member in committee service, strategic planning initiatives, and scholarly activities.

Institutional Information:

Located in Albuquerque, HSLIC serves the UNM College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Population Health, School of Medicine, including its Health Professions programs, and two teaching hospitals. HSLIC serves the state’s health-information needs, including its 22 Native nations. Qualifications

Required/Minimum:

  • Graduate Library/Information Science Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Three years professional experience in a health sciences library, academic library, or relevant health care setting.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a clinical setting working with residents, fellows, and clinicians.
  • Significant experience providing reference and public services to a variety of constituents.
  • Experience performing in-depth literature reviews and systematic reviews using biomedical and health sciences databases.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with faculty, researchers, students, and fellow librarians.
  • Proficiency with LibGuides or other tools for developing online research guides.
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative approaches to engaging resident physicians, fellows, and clinical faculty.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including creating and delivering presentations.
