Position SummaryThe primary focus of this position is to recruit, supervise, and train student employees to support Public Services operations in a library setting. This position performs specialized tasks requiring advanced skills in customer service, reference, circulation, and interlibrary loan. The student supervisor ensures smooth daily operations, establishes and maintains service standards, and participates in the development and evaluation of Public Services policies and procedures.

Duties include:

  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and trains student employees.
  • Develops, updates and maintains comprehensive training materials for student employees to ensure compliance with library policies and desk procedures.
  • Schedules and monitors student employee work hours, ensuring adequate coverage for library service desk.
  • Assists library patrons at the front desk with inquiries ranging from general to complex, demonstrating advanced knowledge of library resources.
  • Plans and evaluates library services, with a focus on implementing and training student employees.
  • Supports library circulation services, including resolving complex issues, assisting with interlibrary loans (ILL), and managing overdue item billing.
  • Assists patrons with library technology, including computing, printing, and emerging technology resources.
  • Monitors building security and facilities, including reporting incidents and/or issues and opening and closing the library.
  • Serves on library committees and working groups.
  • Maintains organizational resources (statistics, training and documentation guides, etc.).
  • Creates and maintains library research guides, FAQs, and other information resources.
  • Plans, conducts, and promotes library events, tours, and workshops.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience supervising and training student employees in a library or similar environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service in a diverse library setting.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey information, provide clear instructions, and build positive relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Experience with integrated library systems and databases.
  • Knowledge of library principles, practices, and terminology.
