Position Summary

The UNM Department of Dermatology seeks a highly motivated individual to join the dermatology team as a Medical Education Program Coordinator. With direction from the Dermatology Chair and Residency Program Director, the Medical Education Coordinator will be responsible for the operational and financial development and management of the Dermatology Medical Education Programs, primarily the Dermatology Residency Training Program.

The position requires a comprehensive and detailed understanding of national accreditation policies and procedures. The selected candidate will help to develop, continually assess, and direct a wide range of programmatic issues including long range planning, recruiting, developing projects, analyzing administrative workflow, maintaining databases, communicating with faculty and residents regarding a range of issues, and managing internal and external program relations.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Assist medical leadership with comprehensive application/submission, site review and validation process for achieving and sustaining national accreditation for Dermatology residency training program
  • Coordinate acceptance of candidates into the Dermatology Residency Program to include processing applications, scheduling interviews, handling candidate evaluations and reporting matching programs.
  • Develop, maintain, and coordinate clinical rotation and holiday/leave/call schedules for residents at teaching hospital/clinic and/or off-site training programs.
  • Serve as principal liaison between residents, medical students and/or fellows, faculty, staff, other departments and/or external constituencies on day-to day programmatic, operational and administrative issues. Resolve administrative problems, as appropriate and/or refer problems to key
    faculty for resolution.
  • Collect and analyze data; prepare scheduled and special reports and statistical information in accordance with accreditation standards; maintain participant records and evaluations, track participant progress through the program for completion of requirements; coordinate information required for ongoing program re-certification.
  • Provide administrative support for the Residency Program Director and residents, and in the development, implementation, and marketing of medical educational programs.
  • Facilitate seminars, meetings, special projects, and coordinate the evaluation of the success of these events.
  • Perform or delegate clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence, purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques
  • Knowledge of understanding medical residency program operating principles and procedures

Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize information
  • Working knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with absolute confidentiality
