Position Summary

The University of New Mexico (UNM) Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) seeks an enthusiastic, highly motivated self-starter for the role of Sponsored Projects Manager - Contracts to join our team of professionals.

OSP is a core office that provides administration, management, and oversight of the world class extramural sponsored research programs being conducted at our Research One designated university. We provide an exciting, multifaceted, and fast paced work environment that emphasizes customer service, professionalism and growth. Our contracts team operates in a collaborative environment and is responsible for the review and negotiation of all funded and unfunded research contracts (from federal, state, and corporate sponsors) and associated actions such as sub awards, material transfer agreements (MTA), and non-disclosure agreements (NDA). The Office is seeking a highly motivated individual, who will report directly to the Director of Sponsored Projects, and will manage and oversee the day-to-day activities and work assignments of staff in the Contracts team.

As a Sponsored Projects Manager on our team, you will:

  • Manage and coordinate the contract negotiation process for OSP

  • Support faculty and staff with research-related activities to include complex, in-depth contract and subcontract negotiations with corporate and federal sponsors, regulatory compliance, budget review, proposal review, and award set up

  • Oversee all aspects of staffing for contracts teams, including recruitment, training, coaching, and performance reviews

  • Act as the lead liaison to represent the office in the area of contracts and be able to establish effective working relationships with faculty and staff engaged in sponsored project research activities

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls related to contracts processes

  • Assist principal investigators, administrators, and accountants in navigating the processes involved in reviewing and processing incoming and outgoing research contracts, to include subcontracts and ancillary agreements

  • Coordinates and/or provides campus-wide training to constituencies on contract processes

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM)

  • Knowledge of Sponsored Projects and Research Administration

  • Experience working with faculty and working in a Higher Educational Institution or Research Environment

  • Possess a detailed and comprehensive knowledge of institutional, federal, state, and funding agency laws, regulations, policies and procedures; i.e. Uniform Guidance, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARs)

  • Experience with contract negotiation and/or contract management

  • Strong research skills and the ability to independently conduct research on relevant regulations

  • Ability to work autonomously with a significant degree of organization and interpersonal skills to work efficiently with a wide range of constituents

Additional RequirementsMust be U.S. Citizen due to possible Export Control handling.
