Position SummaryUNM Facilities Management (FM) isseeking a dynamic and results-oriented professional to join our team as a Mgr.Utilities Ops & Maint. The ideal candidate will be under limited supervisionbut will manage and coordinate all aspects of the operations and maintenance ofthe university district energy systems, which consist of multiple sites andfacilities. He/she will oversee the operations and maintenance of the campuselectric power generation and district heating and cooling system. Manages theproduction, distribution, treatment, and maintenance of all primary utilities,such as electricity, steam, chilled water, compressed air, domestic water, andnatural gas. Supports activities associated with the planning, budgets,development, coordination, and implementation of the division's strategies andplans.

Facilities Management is responsible forthe care and upkeep of the physical campus environment. Additionally, thedepartment maintains the University’s district energy system providingelectricity, steam, chilled water and domestic water through its owndistribution systems.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; at least 10 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Engineering Management from an accredited institution.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of utility plant engineering and operations including medium pressure steam boilers, industrial large tonnage chillers, combustion turbine-generator sets, steam turbine generator sets, deaerators, cooling towers, water treatment, and associated equipment and systems.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Project planning skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Knowledge of utility business practices, methods, and procedures.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge staff hiring procedures.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances pertaining to construction, boiler operation, electrical, potable water, electrical, regulatory compliance issues, and safety regulations, protocols, procedures.
  • Skill in capital, operations, and maintenance planning.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to analyze expenditures for compliance with budget provisions.
  • Ability to manage and supervise renovation, renewal, and capital projects.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, with particular reference to work orders, preventive maintenance, inventory control, and equipment history.
