Position Summary

The Departmentof Family and Community Medicine seeks a family medicine physician for afaculty position at the University of New Mexico with an interest in directingthe UNM Family Medicine Residency Program, at a top-rated training programin the country. The Program Directoris responsible for the overallorganization, curriculum, recruitment, and ongoing holistic success of the residency program withinan innovative department committed to under served populations. The overall mandate of the Program Director is to ensure that residents receive the best possible training, and that the standards of the relevantaccrediting college and regulatorybodies (e.g. Accrediting Council ofGraduate Medical Education (ACGME) and its oversight committee, the ResidencyReview Committee (RRC) are maintained. Innovation and creative solutionsin GME, particularly when associated with education researchand community-based learning are encouraged. The Residency Program Director will work together with the residents, the leadership team(comprised of the Associate Program Directors, Program Manager, andstaff) as well as the continuity clinic’s medical & education directors in achieving the goals and objectives of the program.

The Program Director will ensure that the curriculum provided in the program is relevant and adheres to the AmericanBoard of Family Medicine (ABFM) and ACGME guidelines. TheProgram Director provides assistance and direction to other faculty members who hold residency administrative duties (such as site directors, academic coordinators, etc.) and reports to the Department Chair and/or Senior Associate Dean for GME when appropriate. With the assistance of faculty and the residency program committee, the Program Director is required to have an ongoing awareness of resident performance. The Program Director acts as resourceand a liaison between the residents and faculty, other departmentswithin the UNM Health Sciences Center, health authorities,accrediting colleges, and licensing bodies frequently in the roleof resident advocate.

Family-Based Clinical Care
In the clinical area, the new faculty member will provideprimary care to a panel of patients at one of our Family Medicine clinics in aPatient Centered Medical Home model and will have the opportunity to superviseresidents in this clinic setting.

Family Medicine faculty provide care on the Maternal ChildHealth service (a Family Medicine obstetric service), the Family MedicineInpatient Service which provides care to adult and pediatric patients, NewbornNursery, and the Intermediate Care nursery. In this position, new faculty will provideservice and supervise residents on one or two of these teaching services aspart of their job duties.

Innovative Education

Areas of departmentaleducational expertise include social determinants of health, community healthand engagement, culturally effective care, addiction medicine and point of careultrasound. Our faculty are majorcontributors to the education of medical students and PA students at UNM andour residency program provides opportunities for rotations in both rural andunderserved settings as well as UNM rotations.

Salary: salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

MinimumRequirements:

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor ofOsteopathy
  • Board eligible/certified inFamily Medicine by the ABFM or AOA
  • Eligible for medicallicensure in NM
  • Eligible for State of NewMexico Board of Pharmacy certification and federal DEA registration
  • 4 years of professionalactivities in Family Medicine as well as teaching in a Family MedicineResidency
  • Must be eligible to work inthe U.S.
