Position Summary


The University of New Mexico’sDepartment of Pathology, Division of Anatomic Pathology, seeks a highlymotivated Neuropathologist at all academic ranks (Assistant or AssociateProfessor) on the Clinician Educator track. We are hiring this subspecialty toaccommodate a university-wide workforce expansion.  Special consideration will be given toapplicants willing to also cover surgical pathology.

Position Highlights:

  • Collaborative Environment: Leverageour partnership with TriCore Reference Laboratory, which provides in-houseesoteric testing for anatomic pathology.
  • Excellent Gross Room Support: Enjoy afully staffed gross room with four Pathologist Assistants (PAs) and additionalresident coverage. No faculty grossing required.
  • Remote/After-Hours Coverage: Benefitfrom remote/digital frozen section diagnostic capabilities, allowing manyafter-hours calls to be completed from home.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package:Includes robust retirement plans with a significant employer contribution.Employees may choose between a defined contribution plan and a defined benefitplan (similar to a pension). Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide neurosurgical pathologyservices in a growing academic tertiary care center with a regional outsideconsult service.
  • Participate in diagnostic andteaching activities (residents, fellows, and medical students).
  • May participate in translationalresearch activities if desired (not a requirement for promotion).
  • Engage with clinical services for theNCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center and collaborate withneurooncologists and neurosurgeons in a multidisciplinary tumor board.

This position is located at theUniversity of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH), New Mexico's only Academic MedicalCenter and Level-1 Trauma Center. The Anatomic Pathology Division is activelyinvolved in cutting-edge research through collaborations with the Department ofPathology, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Human Tissue Repository,the TriCore Research Institute, and the NIH-funded Clinical TranslationalScience Center. In addition, research opportunities in Artificial Intelligence(AI) are available through a partnership with Indica Labs (HALO AI) located inAlbuquerque, NM.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • MD or equivalent.
  • Board certification/eligibility inAnatomic Pathology.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Strong neuropathology skills.
  • Passion for training residents andfellows in neuropathology.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching within thegraduate medical curriculum.
  • Interest and/or experience in GeneralSurgical Pathology.
  • A desire to engage in translationalresearch related to neuropathology or surgical pathology.
  • A demonstrated commitment tocultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and tothe success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
