TheUniversity of New Mexico is seeking faculty at the Open Rank level in theClinician Educator track to join the Department of Dental Medicine,Division of Dental Services. TheDepartment of Dental Medicine has a primary mission of delivering education anda full spectrum of clinical care. The Department ofDental Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine inAlbuquerque is looking for a full-time General Dentist specializing in SpecialNeeds to provide and oversee direct dental diagnosis, treatment, procedures,and care for patients with Special Needs in a public health setting. You will play a vital role in ensuring thatindividuals with special needs receive the dental care they deserve. You will work closely with our team to deliverpersonalized and compassionate dental services tailored to the unique needs ofeach patient. The ideal candidate shouldbe comfortable providing care to special needs patients. The dentist should have current experience inall phases of general dentistry including surgical extractions. In addition, the ideal candidate will haveexperience working with and supervising dental residents. This is a clinician educator track open rankposition which affords applicants the opportunity to enter as an Assistant,Associate, or Full Professor and educator who is primarily engaged in clinicalcare with residents. The successfulapplicant will join an interdisciplinary team of faculty providing the deliveryof education, surgical services, clinical care, and research.
Responsibilities:
- Provide directclinical care (adults and children)
- Providecomprehensive dental care to individuals with special needs, including thosewith physical, developmental, intellectual, or medical disabilities in aclinical setting
- Perform Surgical andThird Molar Extractions appropriate for a general dentist.
- Work in dentalclinic and/or OR setting
- Provide residentdidactic and clinical training
- Educate patients,caregivers, and families about oral hygiene practices and preventive dentalcare strategies tailored to their needs.
- Collaborate withcommunity organizations, schools, and healthcare providers to promote oralhealth awareness and access to dental services for individuals with specialneeds.

Qualifications | MinimumQualifications:
- Doctorate degree inDental Surgery or Dental Medicine
- At least 1 year ofdirectly related experience completing dental treatments to patients withSpecial Needs
- Licensure or abilityto obtain licensure from New Mexico Board of Dental Health Care
- Completion of anAdvanced Education in General Dentistry residency program or equivalent from aCommission on Dental Accreditation institution
PreferredQualifications:
- Experience in thepractice of the full scope general dentistry
- Experience workingwith dental residents
- Demonstrated skillsfor implants and complicated surgical extractions
- Some experience withhospital dentistry
- Niche interest orexperience in general dentistry - implants, surgery, restoration, special needsetc.
- Certification byeither the American Board of Oral Medicine or American Board of Special CareDentistry
