The Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time, 9-month appointment at the rank of Lecturer to begin August 2019. The department seeks to hire a generalist in communication with preparation in a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. Specifically, the department seeks a Lecturer with knowledge and experience teaching organizational communication and/or public communication (rhetorical theory). Graduate teaching is a possibility, depending on the lecturer’s areas of specialty and department need.
In addition, the successful candidate will coordinate the public speaking core course, CJ 130 (required for most UNM students), a responsibility which includes directing the graduate teaching assistants and part-time faculty who teach public speaking, managing the assessment of the core in line with UNM assessment guidelines, helping to schedule public speaking TAs, and designing and delivering teacher training during the August graduate orientation week. The normal course load for Lecturers at UNM is 4/4 per academic year. Because this position involves comprehensive administrative and coordinating duties, a significant workload reduction will be offered. The department Chair and University policies determine workload. All Lecturers are reviewed annually.
