Position Summary

 

The Departmentof Family and Community Medicine seeks a full-time faculty member for thePhysician Assistant (PA) Program.  Thisposition would include instructional duties (course design, development,teaching, evaluation, and planning), course coordination, test-writing andgrading and clinical responsibilities.  PAProgram faculty are involved in all aspects of a student’s PA educationjourney, from admissions through didactic and clinical education.  This person will serve as a problem-basedlearning facilitator in various blocks as assigned, and also as a studentadvisor.  The new faculty member willactively participate in the ongoing program self-assessment process and carryout other duties as negotiated with and assigned by the Program Director (e.g.Community Outreach Coordination and interprofessional education).

PatientCentered Care:  in the clinicalarea, the candidate will be engaged in a primary care, team-based modelexploring innovative methodology of health care delivery.  We have a growing number of Family Medicineclinics throughout Albuquerque in which faculty practice.  These are all moving toward the PatientCentered Medical Home Model and currently many of these clinics are rated thetop level, PCMH (level 3).

InnovativeEducation

  • We arenationally and internationally known for educational innovation, currently inthe area of the integration of medicine and public health.  Our faculty are major contributors to theeducation of medical students at UNM, and our residency program createsopportunities for rotations in both rural and underserved settings as well asUNM rotations.

AboutAlbuquerque, New Mexico:  Albuquerque, NMis a beautiful city with mountains to the east and a mesa to the west.  It is ideal for outdoor activities and sportsall year-round including running, hiking, biking and skiing.  Albuquerque is 1 hour from Santa Fe, NM and2.5 hours from Taos, NM, both world famous for their art and culture.  The State of New Mexico is multicultural anddiverse with 19 indigenous native pueblos, Navajo reservation and three Apachetribal lands.  We have excellent localcuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple cultural and historic sites, lakes,rivers, deserts and mountains.

Qualifications


MinimumQualifications:

  • Current NCCPAcertification
  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum fouryears clinical experience
  • Eligible toobtain NM state PA license
  •  Must beeligible to work in the U.S.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Clinicalexperience in primary care setting
  • Experienceteaching MD or PA students in preclinical didactic course(s)
  • Experienceteaching/precepting MD or PA students in the clinical setting
  • Experience inwriting programmatic reports
  • A demonstratedcommitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of NewMexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and globalcommunities.
