Position Summary

TheUniversity of New Mexico, EMS Academy is seeking full-time faculty to joinour diverse and talented group of Emergency Medical Services Faculty. This position will serve as a primary facultymember with the EMS Academy for all levels of licensure and continuingeducation. While educational instructionwill primarily take place at the EMS Academy in Albuquerque, the EMS Academyserves the whole state of New Mexico and occasionally faculty members willsupport the Academy’s rural, frontier and tribal endeavors off campus. This faculty position will be responsible forthe primary instruction and coordination of EMS courses, student evaluation andspecial components of EMS training including but not limited to clinicaleducation where students participate in experimental learning within the localpre-hospital EMS and hospital systems in the greater Albuquerque area.

The facultyposition requires an ability to facilitate and manage multiple priorities,effectively analyze a range of educational situations, and make sound decisionsusing effective time management skills. Thisposition maintains a climate of open communication, collegiality, and teamworkwithin the EMS program. The facultyensures the availability of our unique learning opportunities for students andis the first line of support for students. These individuals have a responsibility forteaching, curriculum development, course scheduling, student learning outcomesassessment, professional development, institutional service, and communityrelations.

In addition tothe EMS Academy our Department of Emergency Medicine has 65+ full-time andpart-time attending physicians, and is also home to an outstanding EMResidency, EMS Fellowship, International Mountain Medicine Center and Centerfor Disaster Medicine. The University is located in the beautiful mountain westat the intersection of unique and diverse cultures. Our region offers outstanding recreationalopportunities year-round and is home to world class skiing, hiking, biking,climbing, arts, and cuisine.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a minimumof a Bachelor’s degree
  • Be a currentNationally Registered Paramedic
  • Be a fullylicensed New Mexico Paramedic
  • Have a minimumof three years of field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergencycare (911 response) and transport within an EMS system
  • Ability todemonstrate current knowledge of the National EMS Scope of Practice, NationalEMS Education Standards and evidence informed clinical practice
  • Possess a NMInstructor Coordinator Certification, or meet eligibility criteria forInstructor Coordinator Affiliation with the EMS Academy via similar out ofstate or national instructor credential specific to EMS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Havedemonstrated experience in a highly productive higher education setting
  • Demonstratedopen communication, team building and advocacy
  • Have two yearsof current EMS education experience teaching in initial licensure programs within the last 7 years
  • A demonstrated commitment todiversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working withbroadly diverse communities
