Position Summary

PositionSummary:

TheUniversity of New Mexico School of Law invites applications for a full-time, tenuredor tenured-track faculty position to teach in its Legal Analysis and Communication Program, starting inthe Fall of 2026.

Faculty in the program are responsible for teachingElements of Legal Argumentation I & II, the law school’s requiredfirst-year legal writing sequence. ELA I & II focus on developing students’skills in legal reading, research, analysis, and communication. The program’s facultymembers typically teach two first-year sections of approximately 15-20 studentseach (or 30-40 students total). They also teach upper-level writing courses,and the successful candidate will be expected to help design and implement theprogram’s upper-level writing curriculum. At UNM, legal writing faculty serveon all law school committees (including serving as chairs of committees), andare eligible for summer research and teaching grants. The Legal Analysis andCommunication Program is a director-led program that values close collaborationand quality teaching.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess a J.D. or equivalent legal degree
  • Two years of post-J.D. legal work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated research and writing ability
  • Experience teaching legal analysis and all forms of communication related to that analysis in a law school or other professional setting
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the interests of a client in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other faculty members or other professional colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose writing problems
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
