Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM-Gallup Branch,located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM

UNMGallup is one of four branch community colleges of the University and servesapproximately 2,000 students. Located near the Navajo, Zuni, and HopiReservations, this campus has one of the largest percentage Native Americanstudent body of any public university campus in the world. UNM Gallup is fullyaccredited by the Higher Learning Commission, offering Associate degrees andCareer Technical certificate programs, adult basic education (ABE and GED),workforce training, and personal enrichment courses. There are approximately 50part-time and 65 full-time faculty members.

The University of New Mexico, Gallup campus,Nursing Department, invites applications for a full time twelve (12) monthfiscal year position as an Assistant, Associate, or Professor (depending onqualifications) on tenure track to serve as the Director of Nursing. TheDirector of Nursing provides leadership in the ongoing development,implementation and evaluation of the Associate Degree Nursing Program atUNM-Gallup. The Director of Nursing is administratively responsible to theEducation, Health and Human Services Division Chair. Responsibilities: Administrative* Supervises and guides development of and changes in the program curriculum. *Prepares for review by the New Mexico Board of Nursing and national accreditingbody. * Completes annual reports for accrediting body, New Mexico Board ofNursing, and others as required. * Maintains academic policies of UNM-Gallup inaccordance with the institution's accreditation guidelines. * Participates inselection and orientation of new nursing faculty members. * Ensures nursingprogram faculty comply with educational institutional policies, accreditationstandards. * Prepares class schedules and coordinates faculty teachingassignments. * Conducts monthly meetings with faculty, staff and students. *Evaluates quality of instruction and makes recommendations regarding facultyretention, salary increases and promotions. * Works closely with admissionscommittee, and student advisement in selection of program applicants. * Performsregular site visits to clinical facilities. * Collaborates and networksfrequently with other Nursing Program Directors. * Prepares budget requests andsupervises the execution of the budget to promote quality instruction. *Approves and coordinates faculty requests for library materials, equipment,teaching and office supplies within budget limitations. * Keeps abreast of newinstructional ideas, materials and equipment, and makes them known to faculty.* Maintains a working relationship with faculty members instructing non-nursing(academic) courses. *Plans and participates in Program Advisory Committee meetings. * Provides forfaculty attendance and participation in workshops and meeting which willcontribute to improvement and instruction. * Meets frequently with DivisionChair and Dean of Instruction to discuss, review, clarify and adjust operationalpolicies to meet the ADN Program mission. * Serves as the coordinator of thenursing assistant program. Teaching * Assumes duties and responsibilitiesapplicable to nursing faculty. * Carries minimum teaching load, per New MexicoBoard of Nursing rules and regulations. * Serves on official Collegecommittees, as assigned. * Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Deanof Instruction or Division Chair.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Two or more years clinical nursing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or coursework in Education
  • Minimum of one year experience supervising employees
  • Experience teaching adults at the college level
  • Ability to work with groups in a collaborative atmosphere
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
