Position Summary

The Department of Radiology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is seeking applicants for a full-time Cardiothoracic Radiologist. This is a faculty position that reports to the Department Chair.

The position includes clinical service and teaching as well as close collaboration with consulting services in Thoracic Surgery, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Thoracic Oncology, Trauma, Medical and Surgical Services. Clinical responsibilities include all diagnostic aspects of thoracic imaging including chest radiography, CT, dual energy CT, and chest and cardiac MRI, but do not include performance of interventional procedures. Additional opportunities include participation in tumor boards, multidisciplinary conferences and other interdisciplinary activities. The successful candidate will also assist in other radiology subspecialties according to their interest and expertise.

Research opportunities are available and encouraged. State-of-the-art translational imaging and image processing facilities are available and research is supported by dedicated research staff.

All faculty are responsible for mentoring and teaching diagnostic radiology residents, cardiology fellows, and medical students. Most daily clinical assignments involve direct resident supervision and all faculty contribute to resident didactic education. Successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly diverse student and community populations.

The Department of Radiology provides services for the UNM Hospital, a 580-bed Level 1 Trauma and Tertiary Care Center including UNM Children’s Hospital; the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center; the 71-bed Sandoval Regional Medical Center; and the 320-bed Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center.

Salary and academic rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and academic background.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements for this position are as follows:

  • MD or equivalent
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. (this is not a Visa opportunity)
  • Board certified or Board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology
  • State of New Mexico Medical License (or eligibility)
  • Thoracic Imaging Fellowship, completed by contract start date, or comparable experience

Preferred Qualifications for this position are as follows:

  • Previous academic and radiology teaching experience
  • Interest in scholarly activity in cardiothoracic imaging
