Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is seeking an Open Rank, Open Track Child Neurologist to join our Child Neurology Division. Leadership opportunities exist for outstanding candidates with a strong track record of accomplishments and program building experience. The Division of Child Neurology currently has two positions open. The successful candidate will have prior academic experience and/or training in epilepsy.

Broad spectrums of clinical services are provided by the division including: active outpatient clinics, consult service, and outreach clinics throughout the state of New Mexico. The Division is supported by a strong Department of Neurosciences which has recently funded NIH Clinical. The University has a Translational Science Center and state-of-the-art clinical and animal neuroimaging research facility. These resources provide outstanding opportunities to support any research activity of the interested candidate. Research however is not a requirement of this position. Applicants with primary interest in providing clinical service are also strongly encouraged to apply. The incumbent will be expected to be collegial, have a passion for caring for children, and enjoy teaching medical students and residents. Albuquerque is a terrific place to live and work, with a vibrant university community, a strong tri-cultural environment, and unparalleled outdoor access where one can be cross country skiing on the top of Sandia Mountain as the sun comes up and still get to clinic on time.

UNM Hospital is the tertiary care center for the State and the only Level 1 Trauma Center and Burn Center in New Mexico. The Department has 26 full-time and part-time attending physicians and is home to well-established Residency and Fellowship programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD degree or equivalent
  • Completed child neurology residency in an accredited program
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of New Mexico
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong clinical and teaching skills in Childneurology.
  • Academic experience
  • Training in epilepsy
