Position Summary

Job Title: Open Rank, Clinical Director of Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care/Director of Behavioral Health Education

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine; Department of Family & Community Medicine is seeking a qualified and highly collaborative behavioral health faculty member/Psychologist to practice as part of our interdisciplinary teams to provide education, training, leadership, clinical supervision and consultation within the department of Family & Community Medicine and in Primary Care settings. Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care at the University of New Mexico is an evolving process of collaboration between the Department of Family & Community Medicine (UNM SOM), Psychiatry, and University Hospital (UNMH). The Behavioral Heath Integration model was initiated in the Department of Family & Community Medicine and the model is based on three core principles as follows: 1) Access for all in the UNMH system of care; 2) Ease of practice for referring providers; 3) Flexibility in scheduling/long and short term models of care. The Director of Behavioral Health Education in Family & Community Medicine is also responsible for ensuring that Psychologist’s practice honors the education and service missions of our institution.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the continued development and coordination of a behavioral health curriculum for the Family Medicine residency. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide clinical leadership and vision for the Behavior Health Integration in Primary Care team (12-14 Psychologists). Finally, the incumbent will practice as a Clinical/Health Psychologist in Primary Care settings with consultation services for interdisciplinary treatment teams as well as developing a clinical practice that includes individual, family, and group Psychotherapies with diverse and vulnerable clientele.

Patient Centered Care

In the clinical area, the candidate will be engaged in a primary care, team-based model exploring innovative methodology of health care delivery. We have a growing number of Family Medicine clinics throughout Albuquerque in which faculty practice. These are all moving toward the Patient Centered Medical Home Model and currently many of these clinics are rated the top level, PCMH (level 3). Our Behavioral Health Integration in Primary Care initiative is at the center of Patient Centered Care as a collaborative endeavor between University Hospital, the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at UNM School of Medicine.

Innovative Education and Integration

We are nationally and internationally known for educational innovation, currently in the area of the integration of medicine and public health. Our faculty are major contributors to the education of medical students, Pre and Post-Doctoral Interns in Psychology, and our residency program creates opportunities for rotations in both rural and underserved settings as well as UNM rotations. We are at the leading edge of training Family Medicine residents in Motivational Interviewing and therapeutic communication skills.

About Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM is a beautiful city with mountains to the east and a mesa to the west. It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports all year round including running, hiking, biking and skiing. Albuquerque is 1 hour from Santa Fe, NM and 2.5 hours from Taos, NM, both world famous for their art and culture. The State of New Mexico is multicultural and diverse with 19 indigenous native pueblos, Navajo reservation and three Apache tribal lands. We have excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple cultural and historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.

Salary:

Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

PhD/PsyD in clinical Psychology or an equivalent degree

Completion of APA accredited clinical internship

Be eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in New Mexico

Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least three years of experience in providing integrative care with a team of physicians and working with teams of health care providers and support staff from different disciplines

Experience with Family Medicine residency education

Demonstrated track record of leadership and program/curriculum development Patient care

Experience in medical and/or primary care settings

Experience in being able to create a flexible model of care that includes brief interventions, psychoeducation, longer term psychotherapy, and consultation with colleagues and interdisciplinary teams

Demonstrated excellence in working collaboratively and acting as liaison both within and inter-departmentally

Experience with Motivational Interviewing and teaching therapeutic communication skills

Experience in clinical supervision/mentoring of Psychologists in training and leading consultation groups for early career Psychologists
