Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (UNM HSLIC) invites applications for an Education and Research Services Librarian. This position contributes to advancing the Library’s goal of creating services and spaces that promote innovation, collaboration and engagement for all learners. We are looking for a creative person with a high degree of organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills to join the Education, Consultation and Reference Services team.

The Education and Research Services librarian provides library services to support teaching and learning, research productivity and patient care. She/he participates in the formal educational efforts of the Library including developing instructional materials, research guides, web tutorials, and support services. She/he provides instruction and consultation in bibliographic research methods, information literacy and ethical scholarship. The incumbent in this position will cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with faculty, students, investigators and staff in support of campus teaching, learning and research.


  • Provides instruction on effective searching and evaluation of results for biomedical databases, evidence-based clinical resources, and point-of-care tools
  • Participates in the provision of formal and informal educational courses, workshops and seminars for various groups across the health sciences center
  • Provides consultation on using and retrieving literature and effectively managing citations with bibliographic management tools
  • Provides expert literature search services in support of patient care, clinical quality improvement projects, research projects and systematic review creation
  • Develops online tutorials for information literacy skills and assessment tools to gauge student learning
  • Delivers library instruction using technology tools including course management systems, screen casting and web conferencing
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains research guides for specific disciplines and subjects
  • Serves as a liaison to academic colleges or departments
  • Participates on committees to support teaching, research, and clinical care activities
  • Maintains current knowledge of the trends and issues in higher education, scholarly communication, research practice and health care
  • Participates in collection development activities for the collection and liaison departments

Appointment is posted as non-tenure track, open rank, to be determined based on qualifications; Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000 - dependent upon qualifications and experience.


Minimum Qualifications:?

  • Graduate Library/Information Science Degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association
  • Two years professional experience in a health sciences library, academic library, or relevant health care setting
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering user-centered information literacy instruction for adult learners in a health sciences environment
  • Experience developing instructional materials, research guides, web tutorials

  • Experience conducting complex literature searches or systematic reviews

  • Prior scholarship (e.g., publications, grants funded, presentations, etc.)

  • Experience working as a team member in a complex, service-oriented environment

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills
