The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico and the New Mexico VA Health Care System are recruiting for the position to be the Strickland Chair and Chief for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The Division Chief will lead 20 UNM faculty members working at three campuses (who are engaged in patient care, education and research). The Division has well respected ACGME -approved fellowship training program. Active basic and clinical research in the Division includes programs in epithelial biology, intestinal pathogens, gut microbiome, liver diseases, inflammatory bowel disease and interventional endoscopy.
We are seeking a candidate who combines proven leadership skills with an outstanding record of academic accomplishment, a dedication to excellence in the clinical, research and educational missions, an understanding of the complexity of academic medicine. Candidates should have a proven record of administrative and academic leadership abilities, as well as a demonstrated commitment to education and mentoring. A strong record of scholarly achievement and extramural funding is preferred.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to facilitate and integrate research and teaching activities, and to develop new programs synergistic with health system goals.
Divisional resources include a state-of-the-art Center for Digestive Disease at UNM and a modern GI Endoscopy Unit at NMVAHCS.
