Position Summary

 

The University of New Mexico,School of Medicine, Neurology Department seeks a Cognitive Neurologist tojoin our Memory and Aging team in an Open Rank, Open Track position and who isdedicated to the clinical care of persons with cognitive disorders to build arobust clinical practice.  The successful candidate will join amultidisciplinary group of Neurology faculty within the Neurology Department,UNM’s Center for Memory and Aging (CMA) and the New Mexico Alzheimer’s DiseaseResearch Center (ADRC).  This position offers opportunities toengage in clinical trials, community outreach, and/or dementia science withinthe CMA and ADRC.  New Mexico has a largerural population of medically underserved Hispanics and American Indians andthe newly funded ADRC has a commitment to provide dementia services for thispopulation.

Academic responsibilities includeparticipation in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows andresearch activities of the department.  The successful candidate is expectedto have excellent communications skills and the ability to work collaborativelyin interdisciplinary teams.

UNM Hospital is the tertiary carecenter for the State of NM and contains the only Primary Advanced StrokeCenter, dedicated Neuroscience Critical Care Unit, Comprehensive MovementDisorder Center, NAEC level 4 Epilepsy Center, and ALS / MDA Center in thestate.  The Department of Neurology has30 plus full-time and part-time attending physicians, 4 basic scienceresearchers, and is home to well-established Residency and multiple Fellowshipprograms.  UNM is a mission-driveninstitution that provides access to high quality, comprehensive and specialtycare to people across the state of New Mexico.

About Albuquerque, New Mexico:  Albuquerque, NM is a beautiful citywith Sandia Mountains to the east and mesa to the west.  At more than a mile-high elevation, this highdesert environment provides beautiful sunny days but also the variety of allfour seasons.  It is ideal for outdooractivities and sports all year-round including running, hiking, biking andskiing. Albuquerque is 1 hour from Santa Fe, NM and 2.5 hours from Taos, NM,both world famous for their art and culture.  The State of New Mexico is multicultural anddiverse with 19 indigenous native pueblos, Navajo reservation and three Apachetribal lands.  We have excellent localcuisine, breathtaking sunsets, numerous cultural and historic sites, lakes,rivers, deserts and mountains.

Salary and rank commensurate withqualifications and experience.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD degree or equivalent
  • Board eligible or certified inNeurology or Psychiatry
  • Experience and training inneurological disease in older adults, especially dementia, Alzheimer’s diseaseand related disorders (ADRDs)
  •  Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of clinical experience inneurological care
  • Fellowship training in cognitivedisorders
  • A demonstrated commitment tocultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and tothe success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities
