Position Summary

UNMNeurology seeks a Neurodevelopmental Disabilities specialist to join our ChildNeurology team and help lead efforts in New Mexico to improve the care ofchildren and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities. The position will be part of a team offaculty providing quality patient care in the inpatient and outpatient settingat UNM Hospital and will assume the role of Director of Continuum of Care incoordination with UNM Pediatrics.

Clinicalresponsibilities include the following:

  • Outpatientmanagement of adults and children with neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Participationin rural outreach clinics
  • Additionalclinical opportunities available based on interest and qualifications:
  • Inpatientcoverage/call on child neurology consult service
  • General childneurology or specialty clinics
  • Inpatient/outpatientEEG coverage
  • Participationin multidisciplinary clinics including cerebral palsy, autism spectrumdisorders, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder

Non-clinicalresponsibilities include the following:

  • Administrationof clinical programs at the Continuum of Care clinic
  • Long-termplanning/strategy based on state needs and participating in state levelcommittees
  • Buildingmultidisciplinary teams to improve patient care and access to care
  • Recruitingadditional NDD faculty
  • Laying thegroundwork for a future NDD fellowship
  • Collaboratingon statewide education efforts in relation to neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • Serving as PIon the state grant which funds the Continuum of Care program

Academicresponsibilities include participation in teaching medical students,residents, and fellows.

Researchresponsibilities include collaborating with researchers within and outside thedepartment. Opportunities for pilotfunding are available to build out your own research in the future.

UNM Hospital isthe tertiary care center for the State and the only NAEC level 4 epilepsycenter, and ALS / MDA center and comprehensive movement disorder center in theState. The UNM Neurology Department has35 full-time and part-time attending physicians and is home to well-establishedResidency and multiple Fellowship programs. The child neurology division has six full-time faculty, one part-timefaculty, and a nurse practitioner. Ourchild neurology residency currently accepts two residents per year.

We haveexcellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, numerous cultural and historicsites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • MD Degree or equivalent
  • Board certified/eligible in Neurology or Neurology with special qualification in Child Neurology
  • Eligible for Medical license in the State of New MexicoEligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Board certified/eligible in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (NDD)
  • 2-3 years of clinical experience in Neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
