Position Summary


The University of NewMexico, School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery isrecruiting a board certified or board eligible, Open Rank, Open Track, neurosurgeon with an emphasisin a CNSOpen Cerebrovascular and Endovascular focused practice. Join 7 establishedneurosurgeons and three multidisciplinary Endovascular colleagues currentlypracticing and teaching neurosurgery residents within the Department ofNeurosurgery at the University of New Mexico Hospital (including SandovalRegional Medical Center) and Lovelace Medical Center, an affiliated privatehospital.

TheUniversity of New Mexico is the only tertiary referral neurosurgical center inthe State of 2.3 million people. UNM is one of six primary stroke centers inNew Mexico and the only center performing thrombectomies. There is asignificant need and opportunity for a neurosurgeon to grow and expand anestablished practice focused on the treatment of vascular disorders of thebrain and spine. Overall, the department has a comprehensive practice focusingon a diverse range of neurological problems in both pediatric and adultneurosurgery. With recent re-establishment of an ACGME-approved neurosurgeryresidency in 2022, there is ample opportunity to teach and be involved in anacademic atmosphere. In addition to resident coverage, all subspecialtyservices are supported by advanced practice provider teams. UNM is the onlyLevel 1 trauma center in the state treating both complex brain and spineinjuries, and participation in the trauma call pool will be expected.

Qualifications

MinimumQualifications

  • MD, DO,or equivalent degree.
  • Boardcertified or board eligible in Neurosurgery

PreferredQualifications

  • Strongdesire to work in an academic neurosurgery practice along-side, residents andstudents
    Excellencein resident education.
  • Scholarlyactivity with evidence of publication, participation in clinical/ translationalresearch, and/or independent funding.
  • Outstandingrecord of professionalism with ability to communicate and participateeffectively across multiple specialties.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity,inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diversecommunities.
  • Completion of post-residency fellowship in OpenCerebrovascular and Endovascular, or a demonstrated practice focus in this are
