Position Summary

UNM School of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery is an academic-affiliated medical center that is seeking a physician to become part of the Neurosurgery team. With a catchment population of over 800,000 and very little competition, the area has a very strong need for neurosurgery and PM&R services. The hospital is a 556-bed, Level 1 trauma center serving the entire state. The hospital/group is supported by a renowned academic neurosurgery program offering opportunities in collaborative research and other academic activities. Applicants with interests in general neurosurgery, spine and trauma, are all welcome and will be well-supported. The University of New Mexico Hospital is very stable with a supportive hospital administration. The hospital and department offices are in the heart of Albuquerque with the beautiful Sandia and Manzano Mountains overlooking the valley. Albuquerque offers a family-friendly environment, great access to diverse populations, terrific public and private schooling options, boutique shopping, an abundance of outdoor recreational activities and a reasonable cost of living.

Albuquerque offers beautiful, scenic and secluded neighborhoods with traditional, colonial and modern architecture. Centrally located with close proximity to Denver, Colorado; Phoenix, Arizona; Dallas, Texas and many national and state forests and recreational areas.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree
  • Academic teaching experience
  • Board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in obtaining and managing research grants
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals during the past two years
  • Two or more years of independent practice
  • Experience in resident education
