Position SummaryThe Department of Orthopaedics andRehabilitation at the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, is activelyseeking a faculty member in Open Rank, Open Track for the Sports MedicineDivision. Applicants must havesuccessfully completed an accredited residency in Orthopaedic Surgery by dateof hire, and been accepted into an accredited 12 month away orthopaedic sportsmedicine fellowship program. Applicantsmust be able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of NewMexico.
The successful candidate will joinother faculty in the Division of Sports Medicine Surgery and will split theirtime between the University of New Mexico Hospital and Sandoval RegionalMedical Center. The successful candidate will demonstrate clinical excellence aswell as excellence in education and research. This position will be in a busyclinical setting and include Orthopaedic resident and fellow, and medicalstudent education. They will be required to participate in graduate medicaleducation and research activities. They will be required to take Level 1orthopaedic trauma call in addition to duties in the Division of SportsMedicine.
UNMH is the state’s only Level 1Trauma Center, and has a roughly 2,000,000 person catchmen area. The Departmentof Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at UNMH provides compassionate andcomprehensive care to the people of New Mexico and surrounding areas withmusculoskeletal conditions. We are home to a large indigenous population, andtreat patients from urban, rural and all levels of socioeconomic status.
SRMC is located in the center ofthe city of Rio Rancho in Sandoval County near the Rio Rancho City Hall and UNMWest. The 200,000 square foot acute care facility houses 60 medical surgicalbeds and eight behavioral health beds with a capability to expand to 300 bedsas the population of the area grows. In addition, SRMC contains a 13-bay stateof the art emergency and trauma center.

Consideration will be given tocandidates currently matched into an out of state accredited 12-monthorthopaedic sports medicine fellowship that will participate in weeklyresident/fellow education via remote participation. Appointment will becommensurate with experience and academic achievement.
The ideal candidate will havepractice interests in the care of complex shoulder pathological conditions,shoulder arthroplasty including revision, shoulder and elbow trauma andarthroscopy, and research in these fields.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have completed an accredited residency in orthopaedic surgery by date of hire.
  • Been accepted into an accredited 12-month away orthopaedic sports medicine fellowshipprogram.
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States and must be able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the State of New Mexico.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scheduled or completed an accredited away Orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship.
  • Interest in complex shoulder pathological conditions, shoulder arthroplasty including revision, shoulder and elbow trauma and arthroscopy and research in these fields.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
