Position Summary

The Department of Pathology, at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, is seeking a general surgical pathologist, with an emphasis in Breast Pathology, to join our faculty. Academic rank and faculty track will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Service responsibilities will consist of general surgical pathology in an academic tertiary care center with a growing regional outside consult service. The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and will participate in diagnostic, teaching, and translational research activities. The Anatomic Pathology Division provides clinical services to the NCI-designated UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, and closely works with oncologists in multiple subspecialty tumor boards. Research conducted by the faculty includes collaborative efforts with basic science and physician investigators within the Department of Pathology (http://pathology.unm.edu/), other School of Medicine departments, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Human Tissue Repository, and the NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Center. The University of New Mexico is a sponsor of TriCore Reference Laboratories which provides complete anatomic and clinical pathology services (http://www.tricore.org/).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • MD or equivalent
  • Board certification/eligible in Anatomic Pathology
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Desirable Requirements:

  • Fellowship training in Surgical Pathology
  • Subspecialty fellowship or strong interest and experience in Breast Pathology
  • Subspecialty fellowship or strong interest and experience in Gynecologic Pathology
  • Subspecialty fellowship in Cytopathology
  • Experience in training pathology residents and fellows in surgical pathology
  • Experience in conducting surgical pathology related translational research
  • Experience teaching in an undergraduate and graduate medical curriculum
