Position SummaryThe Department ofPediatrics at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Division ofGeneral & Community Pediatrics is seeking a full-time BC/BE Child AbusePediatrician. The candidate will haveunique opportunities to expand teaching, clinical services, and researchdedicated to evaluation and diagnosis in cases of suspected child maltreatment. Qualifications sought include academicexcellence in teaching, administration, clinical work, and cultural competence.The candidate will supervise and teach residents and medical students from theUniversity of New Mexico School of Medicine. The Department of Pediatrics is committed to the professional developmentof faculty to become excellent educators in preparation for promotion. Theacademic appointment and salary will be based on academic background andexperience.

The Children’sHospital of the University of New Mexico has a level one pediatric trauma designationand the only pediatric emergency department in the state. Excellent pediatric services are availableincluding imaging, intensive care, ophthalmology, surgery, orthopedics,neurosurgery, and rehabilitation. Weserve a diverse population of patients from both rural and urban areas of New Mexicoas well as from many Native American tribes/pueblos. The institution is located in Albuquerque, apicturesque city, located at the base of the Sandia Mountains, and home to theInternational Balloon Fiesta. Childmaltreatment services are provided by two full time board certified child abusepediatrician, one part time child abuse pediatrician, and a nurse practitionerwho staff Para Los Ninos (PLN) and the Child Abuse Response Team (CART.) CART responds to child physical abuse andneglect cases while PLN responds to child sexual abuse cases. PLN is an off-site clinical program locatedat the Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center which serves victims of child sexualabuse, sexual assault and domestic violence. Our programs serve over 1000patients each year. The successfulcandidate will assume clinical responsibility with both CART and PLN.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Board certified or board eligible in child abuse pediatrics by time of hire
  • Must be able to obtain a New Mexico medical license
  • Authorized to work in the US

PreferredQualifications:

  • Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Clinical experience in the inpatient and outpatient evaluation of patients presenting for concerns of child physical abuse and neglect.
  • Clinical experience in academic or private practice settings that care for pediatric and adolescent patients presenting for concerns of child sexual abuse or sexual assault.
  • Experience in forensic evidence collection related to sexual assault evidence kits.
  • Experience supervising residents and medical students in an academic setting, teaching residents and medical students in outpatient and inpatient settings through evidence based medicine, leading teaching sessions, and clinical precepting.
  • Bilingual Spanish-English skills preferred
