The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, affiliated with the Children’s Hospital of New Mexico, has initiated a nationwide search for an academic neonatologist to serve as the Division Chief of Neonatology. The successful candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in leadership, clinical excellence, patient care, education, mentorship and research in order to develop the Division in all of its mission areas. This innovative, academic leader will have oversight responsibility for the NICU nurseries, New Mexico newborn transport, a vibrant Neonatal Outreach and Developmental Care Program, a Prenatal Consultation Program, and our Fellowship Training Program in neonatal-perinatal medicine. The appointment is open at the level of Associate or Professor of Pediatrics.
The Division of Neonatology provides patient care in a culturally diverse, family-centered 52 bed NICU, and a sophisticated developmental follow-up program. The Division is a member of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network, and has numerous other active research programs in place with a directed focus on perinatal brain injury and adrenal function. A candidate with appropriate research credentials may assume the leadership of the NRN at UNM. The Division houses R01- and UO1-funded researchers, has long-standing collaborations with the Departments of Neurology, Neurosciences, and the Brain and Behavior Health Institute, and possesses wet lab space in the Biomedical Research Facility. Commensurate with these resources, the Division seeks a Division Chief who will further develop programmatic initiatives in translational research and academic medicine.
The University of New Mexico’s Children’s Hospital operates in a state of the art facility that provides the most advanced pediatric medical care available in New Mexico. It is the only Children’s Hospital in the State, it has the only level I trauma designation, and it coordinates and runs the only ECMO program in the State. UNM Health Sciences Center has an NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Center with a long-standing pediatric and neonatal component, is a nationally recognized leader in medical education and a major center for health care and research. In addition, UNM is one of the sites in IIDeA State Pediatric clinical Trial Networks and it collaborates closed with the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes program, an NIH initiative to advance child health and development in multiple areas including pre-, peri-, and postnatal outcomes and neurodevelopment. New Mexico is the Land of Enchantment, offering a rich diversity of arts, history and cultures.
