Position Summary

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is recruiting for a full time faculty position in the Pediatric Rheumatology Section to join the team. Track, rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Department of Pediatrics is a multi-specialty group of more than 100 faculty at New Mexico’s only pediatric tertiary care facility. The Children’s Hospital of New Mexico is an integral part of University of New Mexico Health Science Center, the State’s premier medical educational and research institution.

The section of Pediatric Rheumatology currently includes a full-time pediatric rheumatologist, a pediatric nurse practitioner who can function as an independent provider, a dedicated pediatric rheumatology nurse, physical/occupational therapy services and social work support. We are rapidly expanding our services by recruiting a second pediatric rheumatologist, a second nurse and a second nurse practitioner. The Children’s Hospital of New Mexico provides the Pediatric Rheumatology section with a daytime infusion center and sedation services with a suite for joint-related procedures. The head of the Pediatric Rheumatology section, Ioannis Kalampokis, MD, PhD, MPH, is in the process of expanding basic science research. Having established the New Mexico Pediatric Rheumatology Foundation, Dr. Kalampokis is working closely with the local community to establish family support services for children with pediatric rheumatologic diseases. There are tremendous opportunities for growth of the clinical services and research. We are looking for a passionate individual who wants to be part of a building process with the ultimate goal of creating a pediatric rheumatology fellowship training program. Teaching medical students, pediatric residents and adult rheumatology fellows is an integral part of the duties of pediatric rheumatology faculty. Recent fellowship graduates are encouraged to apply.

The Children’s Hospital of New Mexico is located on the beautiful campus of the University of New Mexico in the city of Albuquerque. Albuquerque, with a population of 800,000, is located in the high desert of New Mexico. It offers the cultural advantages of a metropolitan area with the feeling of small city living. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board certified / Board eligible in Pediatric Rheumatology by the American Board of Pediatrics
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Able to obtain state licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of ACGME-accredited pediatric rheumatology fellowship
  • Experience or interest in conducting basic or clinical research
  • Experience in teaching house staff and medical students
  • Master’s degree in Public Health or in Medical or Clinical Education
