Position Summary

The UNM Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is eager to put together the right package for a physician board certified/board eligible in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine with an interest in teaching, coupled with an interest in joining a team of talented, caring and committed faculty members. Applications are being accepted for academic faculty physicians, suitable for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, in the Clinician Educator track, for a position in our Addiction Psychiatry Division. Clinical assignments will be located primarily at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Assessment and Treatment Services (MATS). The successful candidate can take full advantage of opportunities available in our vibrant and active academic community, and can have an integral role in planning and developing treatment programs that would benefit our community members.

As an attending physician at MATS, the person selected will have a voice in developing the program’s direction as well as opportunities for multicultural clinical care and scholarly and collaborative research activities across the Health Sciences Center campus. There are many opportunities for professional development in leadership, administration, and education, including mentoring and supervision of medical students, residents, fellows, and trainees in related disciplines.

Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience and academic background.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor (or equivalent) degree;
  • Board certified or board eligible in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine;
  • Waiver to prescribe buprenorphine;
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of New Mexico;
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educational, teaching and supervision experience with residents, fellows and medical students;
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience treating substance use disorders;
  • Experience treating substance use disorders in a residential setting.
