Position Summary | The Division of Acute Care Surgery(ACS) in the Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico isrecruiting an Acute Care Surgeon. The University of New Mexico Hospital(UNMH) is the primary affiliate of the UNM School of Medicine and the state'sonly verified Level 1 Trauma center. TheUNMH serves as the major referral center for tertiary and quaternary care inNew Mexico serving a population of 2.1 million people. UNMH has extensive experience and expertise inmanaging complex surgical patients and critically injured trauma patient. UNMH has 629 beds for adult, pediatric andpsychiatric care with over 100,000 ED visits and 3500 trauma admissions (2,000at the highest activation level, with >20% penetrating trauma) annually. This position is being recruited at theAssistant or Associate Professor level. The UNM Division of Acute CareSurgery consists of 10 Acute Care surgeons covering all facets of AcuteCare Surgery: Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. We have a Surgical Critical Care fellowshipwith expertise in ECMO and ultrasound as well as an AAST certified Acute CareSurgery fellowship with two fellows each year. Our program maintains a highoperative volume, with surgeons performing over 300 cases annually. The ACS Division typically manages its ownvascular and thoracic cases, supported by robust subspecialty collaborationacross all disciplines. New Mexico is known as the Land ofEnchantment; Albuquerqueis a beautiful city with mountains to the east and a mesa to the west. It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports year-roundincluding running, hiking, biking and skiing. The State of New Mexico is multicultural anddiverse with excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple culturaland historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains. |
