Position Summary
The University of New Mexico (UNM)School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery is seeking a boardcertified or board eligible urologic surgeon with experience, interest orexpertise in Genitourinary Reconstructive Urology to join the Department ofSurgery.  This position will be withinthe Division of Urology.  This positionis being recruited at an open rank, open track; salary and rank commensuratewith qualifications and experience.

The UNM Division of Urology currentlyconsists of fellowship-trained and specialized urologists within the fields ofoncology, pediatrics, robotics, and renal transplantation.  Surgeons within the division provide fullurologic care to a variety of benign and malignant conditions.  This position would work closely with theresidency program.  The UNM Division ofUrology and Department of Surgery boast a robust infrastructure of services andresources to help achieve academic goals, and leadership opportunities areavailable.

UNM serves a large, medically complexpopulation and is a consultative resource for the State of New Mexico and theFour Corners region of the Southwest United States.  Outpatient surgical services are providedthrough the UNM Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, and the UNMComprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), the only National Cancer Institute(NCI)-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius.  The UNM Health Science Center (HSC) is thelargest academic health complex in the state of New Mexico and is the onlyLevel 1 trauma center.  It is the state’sonly site for urologic residency training and a vast referral network existsfor a practice involving urethral reconstruction, buried penis, cancersurvivorship, congenitalism and men’s health related procedures.  It is located on the University of New Mexicocampus in beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the HSC combines its four mission areas -educations, research, patient care and community outreach - to provide NewMexicans with the highest level of health care.

New Mexico is known as the Land ofEnchantment; the city of Albuquerque is a beautiful city with mountain to theeast and a mesa to the west. It is ideal for outdoor activities and sports allyear-round including running, hiking, biking and skiing.  The State of New Mexico is multicultural anddiverse with excellent local cuisine, breathtaking sunsets, multiple culturaland historic sites, lakes, rivers, deserts and mountains.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications for Position:

  • Medical Doctor or equivalent
  • Board-certified/board eligible InUrology through the American Board of Urology
  • Eligible for medical licensure in NewMexico
  • Eligible for State of New Mexico Boardof Pharmacy certification 
  • Eligible for a federal DEA registration
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  •  Completion of an ACGME Urology Residency


Preferred Qualifications for Position:

  • Interest and proficiency inGenitourinary reconstructive surgery including skills in urethroplasty, buriedpenis repair, and urinary diversion
  • Fellowship training in genitourinaryreconstructive surgery
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivatean understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to thesuccess of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
