The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), and the Department of Medicine, Division of Molecular Medicine at the UNM School of Medicine, invite applications for tenure-track faculty positions in fundamental mechanisms of chromatin regulation, epigenetics, and functional genomics in cancer model systems and human tissues. While qualified applicants in all areas of cancer functional genomics are encouraged to apply, we are particularly interested in epigenetic signatures in model systems and population cohorts in response to environmental carcinogens, such as those prevalent in the American Southwest. Other areas of interest include cancer-focused studies of transcriptional regulatory mechanisms, alternative RNA splicing, the biology and role of non-coding RNAs in cancer development or progression, and the application of functional genomic technologies (including CRISPR/CAS or other screening technologies) to cancer-focused problems. Clinical-translational scientists utilizing patient samples to investigate tumor mechanisms or develop novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers or therapeutics are also encouraged to apply. We seek highly interactive fundamental or translational scientists with active, externally funded research programs. We offer an outstanding research environment with well-supported infrastructure and shared resources. Competitive Start-Up Packages that may include endowed Chairs and Professorships are available as well as Cancer Center and Academic Leadership Roles for senior applicants. Successful candidates will have a faculty appointment in a UNM School of Medicine Department and Membership in the UNMCCC.
The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in a 400-mile radius. The 134 oncology physicians, 122 cancer research scientists, and outstanding staff work as teams to discover the causes and the cures for cancers that disproportionately affect the people of the American Southwest - primarily Hispanic, American Indian, and Non-Hispanic White - with strikingly different patterns of cancer incidence, mortality and disparity. The UNMCCC has outstanding research programs in Cancer Control and Cancer Health Disparities; Cancer Genetics, Epigenetics, and Genomics; Cancer Cell and Systems Biology; and Cancer Therapeutics. These programs participate in several centers including: The Molecular Discovery and High Throughput Target Screening Center (nmmlsc.health.unm.edu), one of the nation’s 6 Chemical Biology Consortium Centers of Excellence in the NCI NExT Program; The New Mexico Center for the Spatiotemporal Modeling of Cell Signaling (stmc.health.unm.edu), one of 13 NIH National Centers for Systems Biology; and an NIH Clinical and Translational Sciences Center. Rich collaborations with UNMCCC partners (Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories; Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute) with unparalleled computing and technology infrastructure enrich our research endeavors.
