The University of New Mexico School of Law invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in its Economic Justice Clinic, starting in the Fall of 2020. The Economic Justice Clinic works to reduce structural inequality and promote equitable economic development in low-income communities through direct representation of individuals and legal support for community-based organizing efforts in the areas of workers’ rights, housing, and grassroots entrepreneurship. The School of Law’s Clinical Law Program is widely regarded to be among the finest in the country. It is committed to serving low-income clients, increasing access to justice for those historically underserved, and to social justice advocacy.
We value candidates from diverse backgrounds and perspectives as we work toward enriching our students’ learning through inclusion and enhancing the faculty’s academic mission of research, teaching, service, and community engagement in New Mexico, the United States, and the world. Entry-level and experienced clinicians are encouraged to apply. Academic rank and salary will be based on experience and qualifications but the position is tenured or tenure-track.
Ideal candidates will possess one or more of the following:
Clinic faculty positions involve teaching primarily in the clinical law program, with additional opportunities to teach elsewhere in the curriculum. Clinic faculty supervise students in all aspects of direct client representation and community-based projects, and teach clinical skills classes. The Clinical Law Program operates five clinical sections: the Community Lawyering Clinic, the Economic Justice Clinic, the Natural Resources and Environmental Law Clinic, the Southwest Indian Law Clinic, and our Child and Family Justice Clinic. Offering a J.D. degree, cross-disciplinary dual degrees, and a Masters of Legal Studies, the UNM School of Law is nationally recognized for innovative classes that combine law practice skills training with doctrinal instruction and a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
