Position Summary

Performs varied paralegal work involving a moderate level of difficulty to assist University Counsel, other attorneys, and/or higher level paralegals with routine aspects of legal and factual research, data compilation and analysis, drafting legal documents and affidavits, and under supervision, conveying routine legal information to hospital and health sciences leadership.

This position will assist University counsel and paralegals with medical malpractice litigation and claims, and matters concerning hospital operations. Expect to assist with medical malpractice investigations and routine aspects of legal process. Under supervision of counsel, the paralegal may be assigned to lead the discovery response process for medical malpractice litigation, investigate and analyze medical malpractice claims, and lead or handle other projects as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Paralegal certification, Associate's degree and/or Bachelor's degree.
  • Medical malpractice and/or complex litigation experience.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Ability to develop and implement legal strategies and solutions.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Knowledge of the judicial system and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and draw inferences from research and investigation findings, and prepare reports.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
