UNM Neurology is known for its cutting-edge research. Our research programs contribute to groundbreaking discoveries in neurology. We have major research funding for stroke, multiple sclerosis, vascular cognitive impairment, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease. These research programs involve both the clinical and basic sciences.

The Neurology Research Team is seeking a Patient Clinical Support Coordinator position for our Multiple Sclerosis research programs.

The position requires experience coordinating clinical trials or community-based research studies with diverse populations, including Hispanic and Native American communities. Additionally, ideal candidates need experience with the following ; assisting with IRB submissions, patient recruitment and retention, and data collection and maintenance.

The position also requires a firm understanding of good clinical and community practices in conducting research, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with various university and community stakeholders. Depending on the study, these stakeholders might include community groups, county or tribal health boards, community health care providers, funding agencies, university researchers, and media representatives.

Specific duties will include:

  •       Recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling of research subjects
  •       Developing and maintaining record keeping systems and procedures
  •       Drawing and processing blood will be required for some studies

 

This position will be located at the Domenici Hall on North Campus where our clinic is an outpatient facility supporting neurosciences research under the UNMHSC Brain and Behavioral Health Institute. The position will be primarily responsible for coordinating research studies in accordance with established study protocols and federal, local, and institutional policies and guidelines for clinical trials and includes research study management and monitoring.

This is a term position where the employment contract is renewed on an annual basis with satisfactory performance. Additionally, this is a staff position and does not meet the criteria for J-1 visa category.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in/knowledge of:
  •          Use and understanding of medical terminology
  •           Neurological or behavioral clinical research
  •          Recruiting patients to participate in research studies
  •          Coordinating clinical trials
  •          Preparing applications and other documents for submission to an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or direct experience in IRB Administration
  •          Drawing and processing blood (experience and/or training)
  •          Ability to work flex hours, as required by study
  •          Proficiency in Spanish
  •          Data acquisition and analysis using Matlab platform
  •          Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) fMRI analysis
