Position Summary

Position Overview

The Patient Clinical Support Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for multiple divisions within the department of surgery. The position is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and operational support to division faculty and has oversight of multiple clinical functions, ensuring the smooth coordination of day-to-day activities. Key responsibilities include managing scheduling and calendaring for division meetings, tracking faculty leave, placing reminder calls, and processing ad hoc referrals. The role collects, organizes, and maintains medical data and records, including on-call schedules and licensing documentation, and oversees the creation and upkeep of patient charts and related files within both manual and electronic systems. 

Working closely with the Department Leadership Team, including the Department Administrator, Division Chiefs, and other key leaders, the Patient Clinical Support Coordinator provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support and contributes significantly to the overall effectiveness and success of the team.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars; coordinating meetings, facilities usage, events, and/or travel arrangements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Experience working in a clinic environment with knowledge of patient registration, documentation, care charts, patient histories, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to establish, update, and maintain departmental files, inventories, and records.
  • Experience in clinical operations, including Cerner Millennium applications (scheduling, PowerChart, IDX) and other frontline clinical procedures.
  • Experience with UNM purchasing policies, PCard, and Chrome River Expense.
  • Familiarity with UNM Business Policies and Procedures.
