Position Summary

The University of New Mexico (UNM) Neutrino Physics Group has an immediate opening for an outstanding Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on the LEGEND neutrino-less double-beta decay experiment.

Our group is primarily involved R&D for the LEGEND-1000 liquid argon active veto, where we have been researching the use of xenon-doping. In our lab at UNM we have a 100-liter cryogenic test stand with which we have demonstrated an enhancement in light yield with modest xenon concentrations. We are evaluating the utility of this technique for LEGEND-1000 background suppression. We have a close working relationship with the LANL LEGEND group. Together with LANL, we are building an improved test stand at UNM for continuing our study of xenon doped argon, for testing germanium detector prototypes, and for prototyping cryogenic components for LEGEND-1000. The postdoc is expected to play a leading role in this program of research.

We are also active on the commissioning, operation, and data analysis of the ongoing LEGEND-200 experiment at LNGS. The postdoc is expected to play an active role in the LEGEND-200 experiment.

The postdoc will be stationed at the campus of UNM, Albuquerque, New Mexico, with travel to LANL, LNGS, collaboration meetings, and conferences provided.
