Position SummaryThe Department of Mechanical Engineering at theUniversity of New Mexico invites applications for the position of PostdoctoralFellow. We are seeking a research focused,experienced individual with excellent analytical, organizational, andinterpersonal skills. The successful candidate is expected toconduct research in computational fluid dynamics investigations ofshock-accelerated and supersonic single- and multi- phase mixing flows. This includes researching transcriticalinjection into crossflow, performing statistical analysis of the results,conducting convergence studies, developing reduced-order physics-based modelsto improve computational efficiency, validating the code performance bycomparison with experimental data, maintaining the results database andensuring its compatibility with the frameworks developed by UNM’s collaboratorsat Sandia National Laboratories and University of Alabama - Huntsville. The successful candidate should be able tostart work immediately.

Applicants must hold an earned doctorate inmechanical engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the employment.Candidates should have: a record of peer-reviewed publications in therelevant area of expertise (CFD, multiphase flow); experiencewith CFD codes including FIESTA, OpenFOAM, and Nek 5000; stronganalytical, problem-solving, documentation, organizational, and interpersonalskills; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity,inclusion, and student success as well as working with broadly diversecommunities.

The successful candidate must be either a U.S.citizen or permanent resident by the start date of employment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PHD in discipline by the start date of appointment
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Preferred Qualifications:

  • a record of peer-reviewed publications in the relevant area of expertise(CFD, multiphase flow)
  • experience with CFD codes including FIESTA, OpenFOAM, and Nek 5000
  • stronganalytical, problem-solving, documentation, organizational, and interpersonalskills
  • a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and studentsuccess as well as working with broadly diverse communities
