Position SummaryThe Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a Postdoctoral fellow position. We are seeking a research-focused and experienced individual with strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will conduct research in Dr. Islam’s lab in the department. Dr. Islam’s research is focus on cornea regeneration including cell therapy.

The successful candidate will conduct research involving animal models, specifically using the rabbit cornea. Responsibilities also include publishing findings in leading journals and conferences, leading group projects, and collaborating with both graduate and undergraduate students on research initiatives.

The candidate should be available to start immediately.

The ideal candidate should have:
A record of peer-reviewed publications and prior research experience in ophthalmology, including experience in handling rabbits for ocular research (preferably, but not limited to, studies involving the rabbit cornea) and conducting laboratory experiments.
Demonstrated experience in cell biology techniques.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in Biological, Biomedical Sciences, Ophthalmology, or a closely related field.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experiencedworking with Rabbit model for ophthalmic research.
  • Ademonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and variedcultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to servelocal and global communities.

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment for goodreason. Albuquerque is a culturally richand naturally beautiful city, with good weather year-round, perfect for outdoorenthusiasts. The Sandia Mountain wilderness is 20 minutes from UNM. There is alively arts scene, and we are close to the galleries of Santa Fe and Madrid,NM. There are two national laboratories nearby: Sandia and Los Alamos.
