Position Summary

 

The Departmentof Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of New Mexico invitesapplications for a Post Doctoral fellow position. We are seeking aresearch-focused and experienced individual with strong analytical,organizational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will conductresearch in Dr. Islam’s lab in the department.  Dr. Islam’s research is focus oncornea regeneration including cell therapy.

The successfulcandidate will conduct research involving animal models, specifically using therabbit cornea. Responsibilities also include publishing findings in leadingjournals and conferences, leading group projects, and collaborating with bothgraduate and undergraduate students on research initiatives.

The candidateshould be available to start immediately.

The idealcandidate should have:
A record ofpeer-reviewed publications and prior research experience in ophthalmology,including experience in handling rabbits for ocular research (preferably, butnot limited to, studies involving the rabbit cornea) and conducting laboratoryexperiments.
Demonstratedexperience in cell biology techniques.

Qualifications


MinimumQualifications:

  • Applicants musthold a PhD in Biological, Biomedical Sciences, Ophthalmology, or a closelyrelated field.
  • Eligible towork in the U.S.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Experienced workingwith Rabbit model for ophthalmic research.
  • A demonstratedcommitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of NewMexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and globalcommunities.

New Mexico isknown as the Land of Enchantment for good reason.  Albuquerque is a culturally rich and naturallybeautiful city, with good weather year-round, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.  The Sandia Mountain wilderness is 20 minutesfrom UNM.  There is a lively arts scene,and we are close to the galleries of Santa Fe and Madrid, NM.  There are also two national laboratories nearby:Sandia and Los Alamos.
