Position Summary

The Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the Academic rank of professor on tenure track specializing in Total Joints. The successful candidate will join other faculty in the Division of Total Joints at the Sandoval Regional Medical Center. The University of New Mexico Orthopaedics Department has a well-established and accredited fellowship program. This position is in a busy clinical setting and includes fellow and Orthopaedic resident education and supervision of scholarly activity. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching, clinical care and proven scholarly achievement. The right candidate will find the work extremely rewarding in a beautiful place to live. Ability to work in the USA required. The position may be subject to criminal record screening in accordance with the New Mexico statues.

One of the goals in the Department of Orthopaedics is for us to create opportunities that increase the likelihood that students will choose UNM Residencies and that residents will choose to practice in New Mexico. The Department wants to support residents to practice in New Mexico and support fellows to work in New Mexico.

The UNM Division of Orthopaedics - Total Joints is located in the culturally diverse city of Albuquerque, which lies in the high desert ecosystem of central New Mexico. The city straddles the Rio Grande River and is bordered by the Sandia Mountains on the East and a string of five inactive volcanoes on the West. A number of Native American Reservations and Pueblos exist in or near the city. Besides being renowned for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, numerous hiking and biking trails are within easy access, and river rafting and skiing are just around the corner. Although NM experiences 4 seasons, outdoor leisure activities are possible all year round due to typically favorable weather conditions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.D.
  • Board certified.
  • Completed residency in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction
  • Hold or qualify for appropriate medical license in state of New Mexico.
  • Ability to work in USA
  • Achieved and held academic rank of Professor in orthopaedic surgery for more than 10 years at an accredited medical institution.
  • Held leadership roles within the orthopaedic field.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership in regional and/or national committees and or editorial/journal review boards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student and trainee mentorship.
  • Candidates should demonstrate outstanding clinical care abilities and have associated research interests as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and evidence of ability to obtain external funding.
  • Extensive experience with process improvement and efficiencies in total joint replacement and patient care.
  • Academically motivated with demonstrated commitment to and excellence in teaching.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
